I saw God today, in the small.
Seeing God in the everyday has not been as easy as I thought it would be. Some days I feel like the writer of Psalms or Job thinking, “Why do you hide your face from me?”.
Sometimes it is impossible to miss God, in a beautiful sunset, a snow-covered mountain, or a star-filled night. Other times though it is quiet or dark and difficult to see.
In 1 Kings 19 it seems as if Elijah is in need of a God appearance. He has just met with these people that are trying to kill him. And now he is on the run. God tells him that He is going to pass by. There is wind, an earthquake, and fire but no God. Finally Elijah hears a quiet whisper.
Is God whispering today? Am I missing it? Is it in the small? Little graces I could easily miss?
In Ann Voskamp’s book One Thousand Gifts, Ann speaks of these graces. She makes a list, up to one thousand things she is thankful for. Through this list, she sees God, she sees His care for her. She hears His whisper.
Today on my list 426 – fog rolling over fields, 427- car conversations, 428 – morning, early morning songbirds
What is on your list today? Do you hear God’s whisper?
