Love is patient…(1Cor. 13:4)
When I was learning a second language, there were times in a conversation with a friend where I could not think of a particular word. The well-meaning friend would see my struggle and fill in the blanks for me. If they had just given me a minute or so more, I might have come up with the word on my own.
When I am too quick with my words, I realize I miss the gift of another expressing theirs. Each of us comes with our unique perspective and something to share. In waiting for someone’s words, there often is an unexpected treasure.
The other times I am too quick with my words, are the times the words never should have left my mouth. If I slow down, think about the consequences of my words, were the ones I was hoping for?
“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven…a time to be silent and a time to speak.” Ecc. 3:1, 7
May my words come slowly today.
