Love is kind…(1 Cor. 13:4)
Not too long ago, I had coffee with a friend. As we sat down at our table, she noticed a pen on the floor. She immediately retrieved the pen, because she was worried that the waitress might slip on it. A small act of kindness. She did not need to go out of her way to pick up the pen. No one except I saw what she did, yet she did it anyway.
According to the Merriam Webster dictionary, one of the synonyms for kindness is “attentive”. That is exactly what my friend was in that moment, attentive to the people and situations around her.
I want to live that way of kindness, in my words, and in my life. I want to be attentive, watching and listening to that somebody who might just need a kind word today.
“We live by encouragement and die without it – slowly, sadly, angrily.”
