Quiet

DSC_6964

I saw God today, in quiet.

Some days I need quiet,

sound is everywhere – people talking, children singing, TV playing,  sirens wailing

Other days the silence can be deafening,

waiting for that friend to call, that test result to come back, or God simply to speak.

Quiet when I need it, calms my heart, but quiet when I do not, requires something of me.  It requires trust.

It is easy to want to fill a room with words.  Quiet scares us.  Words comfort, encourage, and assure that everything is going to be okay.  And that is good.  We want to use words to those ends.  But some days come up empty of words. And all we are left with is trust.  Trust in the direction we are headed.  Trust that God has not left us.  Trust that my quiet will not be misunderstood, and trust another despite their silence.

In this verse I read today, I see that quietness and trust go hand in hand…

“In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength.” Isaiah 30:15

We can rest in our salvation today, trust that God is leading even in the quiet.

  1. Insightful thoughts on the other side of quiet: trusting in the silence. “In quietness and trust is your strength…” Is 30:15
