I saw God today, in sadness.
Not every day is an “up” day…
Some days a hopeful “yes” becomes a “no”.
Day four of fever melts into day five.
The morning alarm wakes with it, pain.
And a rainy day casts a gray shadow over it all.
It is natural to want to avoid such days, to want to fast forward through the pain and avoid sadness where we can. No one wants to experience grief. And as followers of Jesus we can even believe it is wrong to be sad. We are called to joy. Truth. BUT, sadness is also a part of our days. It is okay. We do not need to rush through the pain to get to the other side. We do not need to explain the pain away and give reasons for it. We need only go to the one who is familiar with pain…
“He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain….” Isaiah 53:3
…and receive the comfort and embrace, He is holding just for us.
